Size matters

Eighteen feet of elephantine strength, carved from a single granite boulder. The belly area was broken during the looting of Hampi. No lamps are lit in this temple because the idol is broken, so he sits there in dark grandeur. I wonder what he looked like with the lamps lit and the incense burning, decked in flowers and silk.

Hello,
Was going through this blog. At the very beginning I must confess I havent been to Hampi. However, when i read the history of South India, I am always struck by the singular fact that in all of World History, Hampi is the only City which was the Capital of a huge empire on one day and the looted and devastated city it is today in a matter of a few weeks.

As u said, wonder what it would be like to imagine the Diety in its original Glory.

By the way came here from your site Mumbaimagic. Nice blog. only wish we had a blog like this Hyderabad.
